I think if an autism assistance/companion dog passes the public access test which is really a very stringent test that I know full well given I am trying to get Indie to eventually pass this test; should be able to accompany the child with autism everywhere 24/7. There is lack of funding for more aids and assistants and yet authorities baulk at the idea that maybe, just maybe a dog can really assist these kids. If you would have proposed this idea to me, a couple of years ago I would have thought it was the craziest idea ever. However, we need to look outside the box and if a dog can help calm a child's anxiety to such a degree that they are more open to learning- what's the problem?
