If a man
does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a
different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far
away.

There is something missing in the
lives of families touched by Autism; it’s a sense of belonging, being somewhere
where your child isn't the only one standing on the outer not knowing how to
join in, being somewhere where you aren't always on the edge of your seat
praying the odd behaviour won’t be noticed.
Being somewhere where you can
actually join in on a conversation rather than just listening to all the
milestones other children are making and holding back tears.
Talking to someone who knows what
it is like to see every child run out of a classroom holding an invitation to
another party whilst your child walks out empty handed.
This is my example along Autism Rd,
but as well as those sad times we have had the most amazing times, such
appreciation for the little things certainly makes up for a lot of the bad.
An Autism Awareness Walk's being held in Geelong on Sunday April 1. It's part of World Autism Awareness Day, with the walk starting from the Carousel on the waterfront at 3pm. To show your support Brandon and Indie would love to see you there! |
Such a beautiful quote. I am so glad to see that you are sharing your story Christina. The story of Brandon and Indie is indeed a special one. I have added your blog to my list over at the Peace Tree. I am planning on writing a piece about autism this week and I look forward to walking alongside you on Sunday. You are never alone Christina. You have amazing strength, kindness and love. Xx
